Some Useful Tips and Reference links to make your journey easier

Planning your trip

Manchester Airport

Check in

However you’re travelling to the airport, allow plenty of time to get here in case there are any delays on your route. If you’ll be arriving by car, please be aware that there are currently roadworks at and around the airport, and some road layouts may have changed. You may need to allow extra time for your journey.

Always follow your airline’s guidance on how to check in for your flight and how early you need to be at the airport.

As a general guide, you will need to have checked in and be ready to go through security at least 2 hours before your flight departure time.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The information below relates to COVID-19 and talks about its's risk, risk for travellers, the symtoms, its spread and the precautions to take to minimise risk.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.

What's the risk of coronavirus in the UK?

The UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the public from low to moderate.

Health professionals are working to contact anyone who has been in close contact with people who have coronavirus.

What's the risk of coronavirus for travellers?

There are some countries and areas where there's a higher chance of coming into contact with someone with coronavirus.

See our coronavirus advice for travellers.

Symptoms of coronavirus

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough

  • a high temperature

  • shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How coronavirus is spread

Because it's a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person.

Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets.

It's very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.

Do I need to avoid public places?

Most people can continue to go to work, school and other public places.

You only need to stay away from public places (self-isolate) if advised to by the 111 online coronavirus service or a medical professional.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work

  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

Don't

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

    Advice for travellers

All travellers (including those planning travel to other destinations not listed above) should follow sensible guidance to prepare for their trip and reduce risk of exposure to COVID-19 while this outbreak is on-going [2]:

    • Check up to date travel health recommendations on our Country Informationpages, and if you require further advice, speak to your GP, practice nurse, pharmacist or travel clinic.

    • If you are elderly or have pre-existing health issues, you should be aware that if you are infected with COVID-19 you could be at increased risk of severe infection.

    • Be aware of, and keep up to date with the latest official advice offered by the country you are departing from or travelling to during this COVID-19 outbreak.

    • If you are travelling from the UK, check the up to date guidance from gov.ukwebsite and for information on any travel restrictions, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) foreign travel advice; (see the summary, health and entry requirements sections). You can also find general travel health advice for each destination on our Country Information

    • Check the impact this outbreak may have on your travel insurance coverage, including medical repatriation costs in case of ill health or any new restrictions on travel. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has produced information on travel insurance implicationsfollowing the outbreak.

    • Contact your airline, tour operator, cruise line or other transport and accommodation providers for up-to date information on your itinerary and travel plans

    • Be aware that there may be enhanced screening/monitoring at entry and exit ports. You may also be required to self-isolate for a set period, even if you do not have symptoms on your return.

It is important also to check where to get help if you feel unwell within a set period of travel (often 14 days). Guidance if you are travelling back to the UK is available from the gov.uk website.
